Meet Megan

“We often find that the harder we try to get rid of emotions and thoughts, the stronger they become.”
Dick Schwartz

Welcome! I am so happy you’re considering working with me on this leg of life’s journey. I have been working as a therapist for over a decade and in my experience, depression and anxiety do not occur in a vacuum, and is rather a culmination of what life throws at you to make for a perfect storm: all of the stress from all of the roles you play in life, experiencing pushback or setback, disconnection, not getting needs met, and sometimes trauma. We try to cope, we try to distract, we get mad at ourselves and others. Sometimes it can feel so completely overwhelming.

Let me help carry the overwhelm for a while.

I am in the business of trying to work myself out of a job. Don’t get me wrong, I love what I do and who I work with, and also if you’re needing me, there’s some struggle going on and I’m most interested in working with you to get you feeling better and having the tools to navigate life moving forward.

In sessions with me, you can expect a thorough and compassionate approach to learning about you, collaborating on goals, gaining skills to stabilize the immediate crisis or “suck”, healing the experience of trauma, changing the relationship you have with yourself and others, and transforming into the YOU that you want to be moving forward.

There is no situation too big or too small. You deserve care, and I’m here for you. Borrow some of my hope; we can get through this.

A Little About Me:

I am a trauma-informed clinician who works with adult individuals and couples.

I am trained in the leading modalities that are shown to help you heal: Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Assessment and Reprocessing (EMDR), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Somatic Experiencing (SE), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindful Self Compassion, and Brainspotting. I operate from a psychodynamic as well as a CBT lens, depending on the needs of the patient. I also provide therapy from mindfulness-based and attachment-based lenses. I’m also an educator- I teach at Maryville University in St. Louis and I supervise provisionally licensed clinicians. I bring my excitement of learning and teaching to sessions. I like to get you up to speed on what the science says about why you are having the experiences and symptoms that bring you in for sessions. You wouldn’t go in for a surgery without knowing the reason, right? Mental and emotional health is the same way: how can we change without knowing the “why”?

I may be a great fit for you if any of the following fit you:

  • You appreciate a sense of humor and cursing
  • You are always asking yourself “why do I do that?!”
  • You need help being nicer to yourself
  • You struggle with perfectionism
  • You experienced abuse (physical, sexual, and/or emotional) or neglect growing up
  • You’ve survived intimate partner violence or sexual assault
  • You have experienced any trauma of any kind
  • You’re a parent struggling to juggle it all
  • You struggle with healthy relationships or feel at odds with your partner, your family, or friends
  • Experience chronic illness or pain
  • You experience intense fears or phobias that hold you back
  • You have experienced religious-based trauma
  • You struggle with codependency or are from a family system where a caregiver struggled with mental illness, alcoholism, or a substance use disorder
  • You have painful sex, don’t enjoy sex, or have been diagnosed with any of the following: female sexual arousal disorder, vaginismus, vulvodynia, or pelvic floor dysfunction
